Affordable water for Austin's future

The Austin City Council and the Lower Colorado River Authority have worked together to address the critical issues of affordable water for Austin’s future. A landmark agreement establishes a regional water partnership and ends an almost decade-long dispute over the use of treated water the City returns to the Colorado River.

This supplemental water supply agreement will provide Austin an additional 250,000 acre-feet of water for long term water supply while ensuring that the Colorado River and Matagorda Bay remain environmentally sound and that users downstream of Austin have adequate water supplies.
