County approves interlocal aerial mapping

In late action on Tuesday morning, Williamson County Commissioners voted to approve an interlocal agreement that would allow a company to take detailed aerial photos of the entire county.

The photographs will be taken by Pictometry, a national company based in Rochester, N.Y. with numerous government and private contracts.

The agreement involves several cities throughout the county, including Cedar Park, as well as the Williamson County Appraisal District, which will use and pay for the $162,000 service.

Aerial photographs of the county have been taken in the past, a county expert said, however Pictometry's photos involve a technology that would allow the viewer to be able to accurately determine distances as well as dimensions of structures, which is currently unavailable.
