Federal stimulus money could go to build Texas toll roads
From KEYE, March 3, 2009...
The federal stimulus plan includes billions of dollars to improve Texas roads and bridges – but not everyone agrees with how the Texas Department of Transportation plans to spend its share of the money.
That’s because it includes hundreds of millions of dollars for toll roads.
The plan also includes a lot of money for non-toll projects – such as one at the intersection of Highway 290 and Highway 183 in East Austin. Right now to change from one highway to the other, drivers have to exit and wait at a light. TxDOT proposes building a direct connection between the roads.

Toll 45 SE
From Impact News, February 27, 2009...
Construction on Toll 45 SE has begun and is expected to be complete by late April. The 7.4-mile, four-lane roadway will connect IH 35 to Toll 130 just south of FM 1327 near the City of Mustang Ridge.
This corridor will create easier access from south Austin to Georgetown allowing motorists to avoid IH 35. Six exits, three for eastbound traffic and three for westbound traffic, will allow access to Crane Road, Wright Road, FM 1625, Turnersville Road and US 183. The project is funded by the Texas Department of Transportation’s Mobility Funding and will cost an estimated $139 million.

Cedar Park, Leander continue makeover plans for US 183
From Impact News, December 19, 2008...
For many years, US 183 was the primary passageway through Cedar Park and Leander.
Businesses sprouted up along the highway to serve the growing communities and gave many visitors their first impressions of the cities. Now, a good deal of the region’s through traffic bypasses US 183 in favor of its younger, faster cousin, Toll 183A, which opened in March 2007.
Although the older highway has problems, both aesthetic and logistical, it nonetheless remains a vital artery for the two cities, which have plans in place to remake it into an accessible, functional thoroughfare for both vehicles and pedestrians.
