A new feasibility study will look at whether Amtrak could potentially free up Union Pacific Railroad's existing line to make way for a proposed Austin-San Antonio regional rail.
The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is allocating $8 million to the Texas Department of Transportation and the Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Rail District to study what improvements need to be made to the existing Union Pacific freight line to concurrently run a regional rail and what, if any, involvement Amtrak could take.
