Perry presses for legislation to get gangs out of Texas

Gov. Rick Perry pushed legislation on Thursday he says will help drive violent gangs out of Texas.

Perry, joined by some Texas police chiefs including Austin chief Art Acevedo, said transnational gangs are trying to expand their influence, recruiting members from schools and communities.

The bill would crack down on online promotion of criminal gangs -- which Perry says will help protect kids who surf the Internet.

The bill would also allow parents and communities to file civil lawsuits against gangs - which could cripple them financially.
