Roadkill piles up as burn ban stays in effect.
Elizabeth Blair discovered the animal dumping ground last Friday as she was driving on Highway 304 in Bastrop County. Buzzards flying over the area made her stop the car and get out. She discovered more than a dozen dead animal carcasses. Some had been freshly dumped and others were just bones.
"I think its wrong. I mean, you can't treat animals this way," Blair said shortly after making the discovery Friday.
An investigation has revealed the animals were dumped by Texas Department of Transportation road crews. The crews generally take dead animals they gather from area roads to the site and burn them, but a county wide burn ban has prevented that for the last several months and the animals have been piling up.
