The Austin-area job situation weakened in November, as unemployment rose to 5 percent from 3.5 percent a year ago.
But the region still is creating jobs at a 1.6 percent annual rate, although that is a three-year low, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday.
The local jobless rate is the highest since February 2004, when the region was climbing out of the tech downturn.
Statewide, the unemployment rate rose to 5.7 percent from 4.2 percent a year ago.
