As Tom Morris read articles from Friday's newspapers by the faint afternoon light that crept into The Oak, a nearly three-quarters-of-a-century-old bar, he said he hoped someone would open a nice steakhouse after Caterpillar opens its new facility here.
Local officials seemed to surprise almost everyone in this city of about 25,000 when they announced Thursday that they had reached an agreement with Caterpillar Inc. to bring its main engine manufacturing facilities — and about 1,400 jobs — to Seguin, which is about 30 miles northeast of San Antonio and about 50 miles south of Austin.
