With "carbon footprint" growing as a buzz term in the American consciousness, a new study examining the emissions of major U.S. cities finds that Austin's is growing.
Metro Austin's transportation and energy use increased 10.5 percent between 2000 and 2005, according to a study from the Brookings Institution. The average carbon footprint of a resident in the five-county region from home energy use increased 33 percent during that time, while the average per capita transportation footprint actually decreased 1.1 percent.
