Portland, Oregon native an unlikely protector of Williamson County's history

It's not a stretch to say that David Hollingsworth isn't who comes to mind when you think of a typical Williamson County history buff.

Even local historians say preservation work is often done by an older crowd — retirees or longtime locals with ties to the places they document.

You'll find none of this in Hollingsworth. The Portland, Ore., native is a 38-year-old software developer and Massachusetts Institute of Technology grad who wears his hair in a long ponytail and sports dark thick-framed glasses. But the West Coaster, turned New Englander and now Texan, has spent the past few years voluntarily documenting the county's historical sites and cemeteries, something that has taken him to barely-on-the-map cities here, such as Wahlberg and Coupland.
