Georgetown Allergist an Online Star

Before most people even wake up in the morning, Dr. Kim Hovanky already knows what types of allergies they may experience that day.

Hovanky gets up at 5:30 most mornings to test pollen samples that she collects from the air outside her Georgetown home. She puts the samples on a glass slide, drips pink dye over them and gets dressed while the tiny, microscopic pollen pieces absorb the pink coloring. When she comes back to them, she can tell just by looking under her microscope what type of pollen is in the air, and — ultimately — whether allergies will be bad that day.
