"Inflation” has become a dirty word recently, with gas prices well above $3 a gallon locally and a national inflation rate above 4 percent - but construction inflation faced by Central Texas school districts like Leander ISD is in another league altogether.
The inflation rate has dropped recently, but LISD actually had to scrap an elementary school from the 2006 bond package when construction costs rose faster than expected (12 to 17 percent per year instead of the 4 percent inflation rate budgeted in 2004). Elementary #23 was later funded through the 2007 bond issue.
